This website was developed by Matthew Ricketson and Steven Ferrang. We are occupational therapy students at D'Youville College in Buffalo, New York. Following the spirit of occupational therapy, this web site was undertaken with the hope that the information presented within would educate, enlighten, encourage, and motivate individuals with handicaps or disabilities. Our intention was to utilize the core belief of occupational therapy that engagement in purposeful and meaningful activity is necessary for the mind, brain, and body. We felt that our skills as occupational therapy students put us in a position where we could use our knowledge to illustrate exactly how, when, and why participation in a triathlon, may be possible for handicapped individuals. Handicap individuals still strive for self-achievement and yearn for the satisfaction gained through the successful attainment of a goal, maintenance, development of physical fitness, and the chance to compete in athletics and life.

Therefore, we felt that the internet, widely used by individuals, offered us the best device to reach the world. This website contains information that might encourage participation in a triathlon. The testimonials and opinions presented by Pro triathletes Scott McNeice and David Bailey are not intended as the only manner in which a person with a disability or handicap should train in order to compete in a triathlon. If you would like to begin training to participate in a triathlon or question whether you can handle this rigorous event use the contacts provided by this site. There is support available just take the initiative! Finally, if you can, with the use of assistive devices, attempt this event, but mentally are not convinced, please give it a try! However, if you are not successful remember there is nothing wrong with trying again, and again! Please consult with your physician before beginning to train for this sport.
Good luck...
